How to Set Up a Live Encoder for AzuraCast

AzuraCast · Self-help guide

To broadcast a live show from your computer, microphone or mixer, you need an encoder. Popular options include BUTT, Mixxx and other Icecast-compatible broadcasting tools. The encoder sends your live audio to AzuraCast, and AzuraCast sends it out to listeners. Start by logging in at https://stream.onlineaudience.co.uk and opening your station.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Open Streamers/DJs or the area showing your live connection details.
  2. Copy the server address, port, streamer username and streamer password assigned to you.
  3. Open your encoder software and create a new server or output profile.
  4. Choose Icecast as the server type if the software asks for one.
  5. Enter the server address and port exactly as shown in the AzuraCast panel.
  6. Enter your DJ username and password, not the main station manager login.
  7. Use the mount point provided by the station manager. If you have been instructed to use /live, enter it exactly like that.
  8. Save the profile and run a short private test before your first show.

Before going live, check your microphone level, music level and internet connection. Avoid overloading the audio input, as distorted sound is difficult for listeners to enjoy. Once configured correctly, your encoder profile can normally be reused for future shows.
