How to Remove Old DNS Records Safely
Domains & DNS · Self-help guide
Old DNS records can cause confusion, but removing the wrong record can break websites, email, or verification services. Before deleting anything, export or screenshot the current DNS zone. Review each record and identify what service uses it. A records and CNAME records may control websites, apps, or subdomains. MX records control incoming email. TXT records may be used for SPF, DKIM, DMARC, domain verification, or third-party services. Remove only records that you are confident are no longer needed. After deleting, test the website, email, and any connected services. If you are cleaning up DNS after a migration, keep old records for a short review period where possible. Ask support before deleting records you do not recognise.
