Adding Login and Registration with Laravel Breeze

Laravel · Self-help guide

Most modern websites need some kind of login system. Building authentication from scratch can be risky because you need to handle password hashing, sessions, validation, password resets and user security correctly. Laravel Breeze gives you a clean starter authentication system that is simple, secure and easy to customise.

Step 1: Install Breeze using Composer with composer require laravel/breeze --dev. Then run php artisan breeze:install.

Step 2: Choose the frontend stack that suits your project. Many standard projects use Blade, while more interactive applications may use React or Vue.

Step 3: Run your frontend build commands if required, usually npm install and npm run build. Then run php artisan migrate to create the users table.

Step 4: Visit the registration and login pages in your browser. Breeze gives you working forms for registering, logging in, resetting passwords and managing basic account access.

Step 5: Customise the Blade files, styling and wording so the login area matches your brand. Do not remove the security logic unless you understand what it does. Breeze is a great base because it gives you sensible authentication without unnecessary complexity.

Practical tip: Before making changes on a live Laravel site, take a backup, test the feature on a staging copy where possible, and write down what you changed. This simple habit makes troubleshooting much easier and protects your work if a package update, migration or configuration change does not behave as expected. Good Laravel development is not just about writing code; it is about building in a calm, repeatable and maintainable way.
