How to Open Web Ports on AlmaLinux with firewalld

VPS Servers · Self-help guide

AlmaLinux commonly uses firewalld to manage firewall rules. Connect by SSH and check firewalld with sudo firewall-cmd --state. View current rules with sudo firewall-cmd --list-all. To allow website traffic permanently, run sudo firewall-cmd --permanent --add-service=http and sudo firewall-cmd --permanent --add-service=https. Apply the changes with sudo firewall-cmd --reload. Check again with sudo firewall-cmd --list-all. Make sure your SSH service or custom SSH port remains allowed before making firewall changes. If you are using a control panel, it may manage firewall rules itself. Avoid duplicate or conflicting firewall tools on the same server. Record any error messages before making further changes, because accurate details help support investigate faster.
