How to Check Which Ports Are Listening on Your VPS
VPS Servers · Self-help guide
Listening ports show which services are waiting for network connections. Connect by SSH and run sudo ss -tulpn. This shows TCP and UDP listening ports and the process names where available. Common ports include 22 for SSH, 80 for HTTP, and 443 for HTTPS. If you see an unexpected service listening publicly, investigate before leaving it exposed. You can filter for one port with sudo ss -tulpn | grep :80. On minimal systems, the ss command is usually available by default. Do not kill processes just because you do not recognise them. Check the service name, package, and business purpose first.
