How to Create a Subdomain DNS Record

Domains & DNS · Self-help guide

A subdomain lets you create a separate address under your main domain, such as radio.yourdomain.co.uk or client.yourdomain.co.uk. First, decide whether the subdomain should point to an IP address or another hostname. If it points to an IP address, create an A record using the subdomain name, such as radio, and enter the server IP. If it points to another hostname, create a CNAME record instead. Save the DNS change and wait for propagation. If the subdomain is for a website, make sure the hosting service is also configured to recognise it. DNS only points traffic; the destination server must also be set up to answer for that subdomain.
