How to Lower DNS TTL Before a Planned Move
Domains & DNS · Self-help guide
TTL stands for Time To Live and controls how long DNS resolvers may cache a record. Before a planned website or email move, lowering TTL can help the final change update faster. Log in to your DNS provider and open the DNS zone. Find the records you plan to change, such as A records or MX records. Lower the TTL to a shorter value, such as 300 seconds, if your DNS provider allows it. Do this at least several hours before the planned move, or ideally the day before. After the migration is complete and everything is stable, you can raise the TTL again. Do not lower TTL after the change and expect it to instantly clear old cached records.
