How to Create a WordPress Staging Site for Testing

WordPress · Self-help guide

A staging site is a private copy of your WordPress website used for testing. It helps you check updates, plugins, themes, and design changes before applying them to the live site. Some hosting plans include a staging tool. If available, open the staging section and create a copy of the live site. If your plan does not include staging, you can create a subdomain and copy the site manually or with a migration plugin. Protect the staging site with a password if possible, and discourage search engines from indexing it. Test changes on staging first, then repeat the successful steps on the live website or push the changes if your staging tool supports it.
