How to Install a WordPress Plugin Safely

WordPress · Self-help guide

Plugins add features to WordPress, but installing too many or choosing poor-quality plugins can cause problems. Before installing a plugin, check when it was last updated, whether it supports your WordPress version, and whether reviews look reliable. In the dashboard, go to Plugins and click Add New. Search for the plugin, click Install Now, then Activate. Configure the plugin settings carefully and test the website afterwards. Avoid installing several new plugins at once because it makes troubleshooting harder. Remove plugins you do not use. For business websites, take a backup before installing major plugins such as page builders, security tools, caching plugins, or ecommerce extensions.
