How to Migrate a WordPress Website to New Hosting

WordPress · Self-help guide

To migrate WordPress, you need to move both files and the database. Start by taking a full backup from the old hosting account. Set up the new hosting account and create a database if migrating manually. Upload the WordPress files to the new hosting space and import the database. Update wp-config.php with the new database name, username, password, and host. Test the site using a temporary URL or hosts file method if available. Once the website works on the new hosting, update DNS records or nameservers to point visitors to the new server. Keep the old hosting active during propagation. After the move, test forms, SSL, admin login, images, and permalinks.
